PricewaterhouseCoopers to Provide Auditing Services to 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Shanghai

SHANGHAI, 19 June 2007 — The 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games Executive Committee today named PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), the world’s largest professional services firm, as the auditing services provider for this year’s World Summer Games, to be held in Shanghai, China’s financial capital, come October.

Today, a signing ceremony held in Shanghai where the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games Executive Committee Deputy Secretary General, Dr. Shi Derong, presented the certificate of appreciation to PwC’s Shanghai Office Lead Partner, Nora Wu.

The 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games, which will be staged in Asia for the first time, will host 7,500 athletes with intellectual disabilities from more than 160 countries and regions.

To celebrate, the 2007 World Summer Games Executive Committee sent to Shanghai earlier this month a basketball team to participate in PwC’s annual China Cup basketball tournament, an inter-office sports event involving all twelve PwC offices in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau. At the event, PwC deepened its commitment to the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games by donating RMB 1000 for every successful shot made at the tournament.

PwC believes regular recreational and sports events among its staff promote teamwork, friendship, excellence and respect.

Back at the signing ceremony, the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games Deputy Secretary General Dr. Shi said to the gathering: “We are delighted to continue our partnership with PwC on the Special Olympics World Summer Games. Together we will bring the message of sports, joy and human acceptance to communities around the world.”

PwC’s Shanghai Lead Partner Ms. Wu then thanked the Games’ Executive Committee and noted the importance of the distinguished athletic event. “We are very pleased to be a supporter of the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Shanghai as this year marks the first time the World Summer Games will be held in Asia. It’s very exciting that Shanghai is becoming an important centre of the global Special Olympics movement which has been showcasing the city as one that promotes humanity, care, acceptance, equality and inspiration for achievement despite intellectual disabilities.”

Ms. Wu also pointed out how PwC’s involvement with the World Summer Games plays to the firm’s strengths. “We believe our support to the 2007 World Summer Games demonstrates PwC’s ongoing commitment to responsible leadership and the welfare of the larger society in which our colleagues and associates live and work.”

PwC works regularly with various charitable institutions to promote social welfare. Charitable projects are part of PwC’s ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility and include activities that assist the needy and encourage young people to develop their talent.

PwC’s history working with Beijing’s various Olympic committees began in the year 2000 when the firm first provided financial advisory services to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games bid committee. In 2001, after Beijing won its bid, PwC turned its attention to providing advisory services during the tender process for building five major Olympic venues including the National Stadium, to be the Olympics’ architectural centrepiece, also known as “The Nest”. In April 2007, PwC was named as the accounting services supplier of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
